Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
(Japanese single cover)

I've been trying to find ways to introduce you to Pink Floyd, in case you aren't familiar with them. But I'm not really sure how to go about it. One day, I heard someone say, "

"Pink Floyd is not a band; it's an experience,"

and I think I agree.

The band's history is as long as it is complicated. Just know that they're from England, formed in 1965, and "retired" in 1994. They reunite from time to time for concerts and other special occasions.
Between 1973 and 1979, they released four albums that are considered some of the best in rock music (Is their music even rock?) or even in contemporary music in general.

The best way to discover them is really to just listen to these albums in their entirety. Here they are if you want to do so:

However, here I usually introduce one song in particular, not full albums. After thinking for quite some time about which one to pick, I decided on their most popular song. It also happens to be from my favorite album by them, which is also one of my favorite albums of all time. The album is The Wall, and the song is "Comfortably Numb."

There isn't really a music video for it, so as a "bonus," I'll also share with you the version they played in 1994. Their concert in Bordeaux on August 11, 1994, was the first major concert I ever attended (i.e., not a small local band), and I have a surprise for you. While looking for pictures of the event, I found some, and... I'm pretty sure I'm in one of them!

11 août 1994 : en images, le concert mythique de Pink Floyd à Bordeaux
Le 12 septembre 1975 sortait l’album “Wish you were here”. Quelques années plus tard, le 11 août 1994, trois mois avant son dernier concert à Londres, le groupe britannique Pink Floyd embrasait la place des Quinconces à Bordeaux. Retour en images sur ce concert unique

Look at this picture in particular:

I'm pretty sure I'm the man in the black-and-white flannel shirt standing on the left side of the crowd. I had a shirt like that back then, and my haircut is the same as it was back then, too. The only thing is, I don't see my friends standing next to me. However, the man wearing a lilac T-shirt, right in front of me, could be my friend Thomas.

Anyway, back to Pink Floyd and their music.

Here is Comfortably Numb performed live in 1994 (not in Bordeaux, but the experience was similar):

I hope you enjoyed it! You can expect to see more music from Pink Floyd here eventually.
