Belvès in Summer
I miss spending time in France during the summer. However, I'm afraid the summers I remember are gone forever because, as you may know, global heating has hit Western Europe and France harder than many other places. Also, each time I return home, it feels less and less like home. It makes sense; in November, I will have left for 15 years.
One thing remains timeless, though: I truly feel "back home" when I'm in the medieval villages of the French Southwest, especially those in Périgord and Quercy. It's no coincidence that many of them are ranked among the most beautiful villages in France.
Today, here are a few pictures from my archives showing Belvès in the Dordogne department. These pictures are from 2011, but I bet it won't look much different if you go this summer.
Strangely, I'm not very familiar with Belvès. It's mostly a village that I pass through on my way to Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Lascaux and other parts of the region. The last time I was there, I told myself that I needed to spend more time there and get to know it better. That never happened, though, as a few months later, I moved to Japan. Since then, I've been back to Périgord several times, and I try to go every time I'm in France. However, I've never made it back to Belvès.
If you're in France this summer or next, don't be like me; visit Belvès!

It was fully decorated the entire summer. I actually went twice that summer, almost two months apart, and the decorations were still up. I'm not sure if it's an annual occurrence.
