Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
Today's song is 1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins. It was released as a single in 1996 and it is one of the band's most famous songs. Strangely, even though I like it very much, it is not my favorite, I'm not even sure it's in my top 10 of the band's songs, but I decided to introduce the band with this song on the blog because it's one of the most accessible songs by the Smashing Pumpkins. While I think the band has some better songs, they're not always for everyone.
Also note that 1979 can be found in the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, which is one of my favorite albums of all times. I was a huge fan of the Smashing Pumpkins in the 1990s and would rarely spend more than a few days without listening to them. However, while I'm still a huge fan of some bands from my youth, the Smashing Pumpkins really peaked with this album. I really love all of their music from the 1990s but it really went downhill in the 2000s and after. They're still active, but their new music is just not that interesting, sadly.
Their 1990s music remains some of the best indie rock that exists in my opinion.
Enjoy:
