Rosalía & Björk (feat. Yves Tumor) - Berghain

These days, music I'm not familiar with rarely hits me like a ton of bricks. Rarely, but not never.

Didn't I write a "Music for the Next Generation" post two days ago? Yes, I did, but something happened today that I have to share with you.

As you may know, the main goal of this series of posts is to introduce "old music" to younger people. However, I reserve the right to share any other music I love, regardless of its age, popularity, or anything else. And today's song is quite recent as it was released in the autumn of 2025. It's not even six months old as I'm typing these lines. And it comes from a singer I had never heard of before. Apparently, she's becoming quite popular in several parts of the world. But, as you know, we're culturally isolated here in Japan. Worse yet, I almost completely missed the song.

As I do almost every Tuesday morning, I was at home at my desk with my YouTube Music player in "Supermix" mode. This mode mostly plays my favorites, leaving little to no room for discovery. However, every once in a while, songs I don't know pop up for some reason. I had just finished listening to an amazing Chrysta Bell song—I'll introduce her here too, sooner or later—when I got up and went to another room for a few minutes. When I returned, I was confused because I heard Björk singing on my computer, but I had never heard that song before. There was a video playing. A young woman surrounded by animals was in the scene, which was vaguely reminiscent of Snow White. Björk's voice was coming out of a little CG robin. I got curious and started the song over. And... This is one of the most amazing songs I've heard in years—probably in decades. I'm not exaggerating. When the song ended, I had literal goosebumps, as well as tears in my eyes, overwhelmed by an onslaught of emotions. What emotions? All of them!

Can you believe that if I had returned to my desk just one minute later, I would have missed it entirely? The idea terrifies me now.

The song is called "Berghain" and is by Spanish singer Rosalía. It also features American musician Yves Tumor, whom I'm not familiar with, and of course, Björk.

Well, here is the song:

What do you think?

But wait, there's more. While looking for more information about the song and Rosalía, I came across a live version of the song from the BRIT Awards in late February. Usually, there isn't much to expect from live performances of songs at award ceremonies. Usually... This performance, however, elevated the song in ways I couldn't have imagined (and yes, Björk sang too).

All right, that's it for now. Do you want to know what I'm going to do as soon as I publish this post? I'm going to listen to as much Rosalía as I can. There's a good chance she'll be featured again in this blog/newsletter.

As always, if you enjoyed the post, please share it with your loved ones and contacts. If you haven't already, subscribe to the newsletter.

Thanks for reading.
