Ozzy Osbourne (1948-2025)

I wasn't planning on telling you about Ozzy Osbourne today, but I unfortunately learned about his passing this afternoon. Since this blog is currently introducing you to major rock bands, I had to change my plans and tell you about him today.

Osbourne was one of the most important figures in rock music. He, guitarist Tony Iommi, and their band Black Sabbath are basically the inventors of heavy metal. Strangely, I've never listened to them much, despite listening to a lot of music from the same period (The 1970s were the time when Led Zeppelin was the most popular band in the English-speaking world. It was also the time when David Bowie and Queen made their best music.) Ozzy Osbourne is partly responsible for heavy metal's controversial reputation. He was nicknamed the Prince of Darkness.

Today, I'm going to introduce two of Black Sabbath's most famous songs: Paranoid and Iron Man.
