Oppenheimer (2023)

Oppenheimer (2023)

Director: Christopher Nolan

Starring: Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh

What it is about: A biopic of the "father" of the atomic bomb.

Spoiler-free review: One of the best directors of his generation, a stellar cast, and a challenging subject that was handled well. A complete success in my opinion. I'm not always a fan of biopics, but this one just works.

I like pretty much everything. But I may be biased, Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of our time in my opinion. Apparently, the movie is mostly accurate and factual, which is not always the case with the biopic genre. The cast includes some of the best actors around. I especially liked that, although the Manhattan Project is obviously a signicant part of the film, it is not solely focused on it. Other parts Oppenheimer's life before and after the war are treated with as much importance.
Some people complained that the Trinity test is not the climax of the film, but I think it's a good thing that it is not. The making of the atom bomb is neither glorified, nor judged from a modern perspective. I think it was important to treat it this way.
