Death Cab For Cutie - The New Year

So this is the new year...

Death Cab for Cutie is an indie rock band from Washington State (where else?) in the US. They've were formed in 1997 and are still active today.

To me, they represent a very specific period of my life (roughly the mid to late 2000s), that is my last couple of years living in Florida, as well as my "Parisian years." They also represent a revival of rock music at a time when it was not doing great, but when new interesting and creative bands emerged, a few of them even joining the mainstream (Death Cab for Cutie kind of did). Even though I mostly listened to them back when I lived in Paris, they mostly remind me of my Florida life somehow. It should be noted that I was working at the mini-campus that University of Florida had in Paris at the time, so I was still in contact with that part of my life. I even saw them play in Paris, and I went there with my students (from University of Florida).

The song is pretty self-explanatory, and you'll easily relate to the lyrics, especially if you've been in the same situation. Having lived in many places and having loved ones in even more places, this is a situation I've been here before, more than once.
