If you got to this point, you already know that my name is David Billa.
Here are a few more things about me that you may care to know:
- I’m French.
- I’ve lived in Takamatsu, Japan since 2011.
- My main online activity is blogging. While it is not the most important part of my life, a lot of what I do online revolves around it.
- In no particular order (except maybe alphabetical), my interests include art, cinema, computers, cultures, history, the internet, languages, literature, nature. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.
- I grew up in Agen, a small town in southwestern France. I lived in a few places and countries before settling down in Japan and in Takamatsu: Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Paris in France, as well as Morgantown and Gainesville in the United States.
- I teach English at the local university.
- I also raise two wonderful kids that drive me nuts.
- Of course, there’s more about me than just these few lines. If you care to know more, I invite you to stick around and subscribe to the various newsletters that may interesting you.

About this site
This blog/newsletter covers a variety of topics and sections. Namely:
Japan Art Islands
In which I talk about the Setouchi Islands of Kagawa Prefecture. Islands that have become internationally famous over the years because they have become the home of the Setouchi Triennale, one of the major art festivals in Asia.
In this section, I introduce various locations and artworks, and talk extensively about the Triennale and the things that gravitate around it.
Memories of a New Century
A collection of postcards from the early 20th century. They used to belong to my grandfather and give a unique insight into life in rural southwest France around the time of World War One.
Music for the Next Generation
A little while ago, I started posting about the music I like to broaden my students' musical perspectives. Then I thought it could be interesting to more people, so here we are.
Fixing the Internet
Things are not going well in the online world these days, and the negative effects are spilling over into the offline world. This doesn't have to be the case. Many people are trying to make the internet a more positive place and technology less toxic. In this category, you'll find my thoughts on this topic, as well as news and the things I do to improve my online life. Maybe it will inspire you.
Liminal Web
Here you'll find... the rest... Posts about culture, various places I visited and want to share with you, random thoughts about random topics and who knows what else.
